OPI Hosting Statewide Data and Assessment Conference

January 8, 2019

HELENA—The Montana Office of Public Instruction (OPI) will be hosting its annual statewide Data and Assessment Conference January 14th and 15th in Bozeman. This year, there will be additional emphasis on data-driven student growth. The theme of the conference is “Get READY for 2020” (Re-envision an Equitable Approach to Deploying Your assessments).

“This conference is an opportunity for teachers to rethink the role of assessments in preparing Montana students for success,” State Assessment Director Ashley McGrath said Tuesday. “By emphasizing data-driven assessments we can move beyond the stereotypes of standardized testing to better inform classroom learning and drive student growth.”

The keynote speaker will be Professor James W. Pellegrino from the University of Illinois. His topic of discussion is “Measuring What Matters: Designing Classroom-Based Assessments that Support Three-Dimensional Science Teaching and Learning”.

The two-day conference will be held at the Best Western Plus Grantree Inn. Educators will be eligible to receive OPI renewal credits for participation in a variety of sessions and breakouts which will include best-practices and innovative approaches to data and assessments. Additional details and a full agenda can be found on the OPI’s website: http://opi.mt.gov/Leadership/Assessment-Accountability/Statewide-Testing/Montana-Assessment-Conference

This legislative session, the OPI is promoting HB 61 which will allow ACT data sharing between the OPI and the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education to provide Montana families with greater post-secondary opportunities.
