Montana Heritage Center committees to hold second meeting

Committee members will meet for a second time to discuss the new Montana Heritage Center project

MONTANA – The Montana Heritage Center Building Committee will hold a second meeting to discuss possible locations for the new Heritage Center on Friday, November 1.

The Department of Administration was directed by the 66th Legislature to select a location for the new Heritage Center.

CTA Architects (CTA), as the previously designated project consultants, completed the required data collection and analyzed potential locations for the new Heritage Center. CTA presented the Building Committee with their analysis at an initial meeting on October 11.

During the previous meeting, CTA architects and engineers presented committee members with the criteria they used to evaluate five potential sites: the legislature’s previously designated location at 6th and Roberts, the former mall site, Padbury Ranch, current state-owned land near the Montana Department of Transportation, and available airport property.

Committee members were presented with detailed analysis of each of these sites and asked by Department of Administration Director John Lewis to review the materials and come prepared with further questions. This second meeting will involve more discussion among committee members about potential sites.

The Building Committee will submit a report to Director Lewis summarizing their analysis. Director Lewis has the responsibility of choosing the final location of the new Heritage Center.

The November 1 meeting will begin at 9:00am in Room 111 of the Metcalf Building (1520 East 6th Avenue). There will be an opportunity for public comment at the end of the meeting.

For more information on the project, including a map of possible site locations and an opportunity to submit public comment, visit heritagecenter.mt.gov.
