Governor Bullock Presents Labor Day Report

Governor highlights Montana’s strong economy, low unemployment, rising wages, and innovative workforce development partnerships

MONTANA – One day after standing with Montana workers and reaffirming his commitment to workers’ rights, Governor Steve Bullock, flanked by Montana’s Commissioner of Labor & Industry Pam Bucy and Lt. Governor Mike Cooney, presented the 2016 Labor Day Report.

Montana’s economy is strong and growing. More Montanans are on the job and earning higher wages than ever before in our state’s history,” said Governor Bullock. “Through innovative partnerships across the state, we are equipping the next generation of Montana workers with the knowledge, skills, and experience to succeed and take our economy to new heights.

The Labor Day Report is compiled annually by the Montana Department of Labor & Industry and provides a detailed look at the economic performance of Montana as measured by key growth indicators such as unemployment and personal income growth.

The 2016 Labor Day Report emphasizes that the state’s economy continues to grow and is positioned to improve over the coming year. Key highlights from the report include:

  • More Montanans are working across the state than ever before;
  • Montanans are experiencing the highest annual statewide real wage growth since 1990;
  • Montana’s unemployment rate is well below the national average;
  • Montana’s GDP is the 5th fastest growing over five years;
  • Montana’s wage growth is the 6th fastest growing over five years; and
  • Montana’s personal income growth is the 9th fastest growing over fives years.

The report also addresses the areas of Montana’s workforce development that need ongoing attention Governor Bullock and Lt. Governor Cooney will be in Missoula, Bozeman, Great Falls, Billings, and Butte this week highlighting the innovative partnerships supported by the Bullock Administration to train Montana’s workforce to meet the growing needs of Montana businesses for highly skilled and trained workers to fill good-paying jobs.
