DEQ Offering Funding and Informational Webinar for Nonpoint Source Pollution Projects

Thursday, June 2, 2016/Categories: Department of Environmental Quality/Tags: DEQ

Helena – The Montana Department of Environmental Quality has funding available for nonpoint source water pollution reduction projects. Those interested in applying for project funding can attend a webinar on June 22, 2016, to learn more about the program and the application process.

An estimated $900,000 in funding will be available to Montana in 2017 under Section 319 of the Federal Clean Water Act. The funds support projects to reduce nonpoint source pollution caused by agricultural and forestry activities, urban and suburban development, and runoff from abandoned mine sites. DEQ is seeking project proposals to advance Montana’s goal of restoring waters that do not meet state water quality standards and are impaired by pollutants such as sediment, nutrients, pathogens, and toxic metals.

Organizations eligible for funding include nonprofit organizations, universities, and local, state or federal government agencies. Funds may be used to conduct assessments, develop and implement Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) and watershed management plans, provide technical assistance, demonstrate new technology, and provide education and outreach.

Groups interested in submitting project proposals are strongly encouraged to participate in the webinar on June 22. The webinar will start at 9:00 a.m. in Room 111 of the DEQ Metcalf Building at 1520 E 6th Ave. in Helena. Remote access is available and details are available from Katie Steele at (406) 444-0549 or by email at:

Project sponsors must submit a preliminary proposal by July 25, 2016. Final applications are due on September 26, 2016. Funding for projects will be announced after the 319 Agency Review Panel meets on October 20, 2016.
