Helena – The Montana Departments of Environmental Quality and Natural Resources and  Conservation have launched a unique social media campaign encouraging all Montanans to use the hashtag #MTEARTH16 to share their moments in the Montana outdoors.

The #MTEARTH16 campaign lets Montanans contribute to a mosaic of photos related to the Montana outdoors. It also highlights and celebrates the variety of natural resources jobs performed by Montanans from all sectors.

Event planners are using, a web-based tool that combines content from several social media sites including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Google Plus, and Vimeo and displays them on a single location.

The page for #MTEARTH16 is already active and displaying photo and video content. The page can be found by going to and searching “#mtearth16” or visiting: The page will continue to host the collection of images at least through the end of summer, 2016.

To contribute to the page, contributors just need to add the hashtag, #mtearth16, at the end of their photo or video caption.

Here are some ideas for things to share:

  • If you work in the outdoors, share a photo of yourself at work. Your work can range from that of a rancher or forester to a hydrologist or engineer. Include your hometown, the outdoor location, and a comment on what you do.
  • Share a photo of your favorite Montana places. Where do you and your friends or family hike, hunt, fish, camp, or just go to get away?
  • Share a photo of your Earth Day activities or events. How does your school, conservation district, church group, or neighborhood celebrate Earth Day?

Remember, the #mtearth16 hashtag must be aded when the photo or video is originally posted in order to be collected and hosted on the Tagboard site.

We hope this fun and easy activity will demonstrate how Montanan’s love their outdoors!
