Superintendent Elsie Arntzen Announces 25th OPI Summer Institute Registration
HELENA – Superintendent Elsie Arntzen opens registration on May 18 for the Office of Public Instruction (OPI) Summer Institute. The Summer Institute will be held in person at Montana State University from June 20 through 24. This year’s theme is Putting Montana Students First. The Institute will feature over 150 sessions focused on Superintendent Arntzen’s Montana Hope, Montana Teach, Montana Learn, and Montana Ready initiatives. These sessions are free to all Montana educators and administrators with a paid option to earn professional development units. Families and community members are welcome.
“It is great to gather in person as we share smiles and put an emphasis on student learning,” said Superintendent Elsie Arntzen. “We are all-in in putting our Montana students first no matter who they are or where they live across our great state. The Summer Institute will help shape teaching and learning in our Montana classrooms.”
Sessions will be offered by OPI staff and other educational experts. The four keynote addresses are:
· Dr. Peter Liljedahl – Building Thinking Classrooms
· Tessie Rose Bailey – Lessons Learned from 20 Years of MTSS Implementation
· Dr. Bella Bikowsky – Mental Health Embedded into MTSS
· Tribal Elders and Youth Panel – Youth Like to Run, Our Elders Know the Path
The vision and mission of the Summer Institute are:
- To promote a sustainable system using effective data collection alongside decision-making procedures and evidence-based practices to improve student outcomes in the areas of social/emotional/behavioral competencies and academic achievement for ALL students.
- To provide quality training to Montana school personnel in promoting a positive and safe school climate that provides a multi-tiered system of support for students, families, and staff focusing on social/emotional/behavioral competencies and academic achievement.
Educators can receive two graduate credits through Montana State University and the University of Montana if 30 hours of Summer Institute sessions are attended and an essay is completed. Educators can also receive professional development units for licensing. To earn both graduate credit and professional development units, a fee of $250 is required.
