HELENA – Superintendent Arntzen will host a free virtual math workshop for Montana school leaders and teachers on April 3, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The workshop, “Empowering Mathematical Mindsets,” will be led by Dr. Jo Boaler, a leading voice in mathematics education and an advocate for innovative teaching methods that promote growth mindsets and equitable learning opportunities. This workshop will help educators inspire a love of math in their students through innovative, growth-minded teaching practices.

“Currently, only 37.5% of students in grades 3-8 and 30.6% of students in grade 11 are proficient in math,” said Superintendent Elsie Arntzen. “This workshop will give our teachers more confidence when teaching math. I encourage all Montana educators and school leaders to attend this workshop to help our students achieve academic success.”

During the workshop, participants will:

  • Explore the concept of mathematical mindsets to build students' confidence and ability in mathematics
  • Discover practical strategies to implement a growth mindset in math instruction, to math more engaging and accessible
  • Learn how to foster a classroom environment that celebrates mistakes as learning opportunities and challenges as avenues for growth
