Superintendent Arntzen to Host Seventh Community Discussion on Education Legislation
HELENA – Superintendent Arntzen will host the seventh monthly virtual community discussion focusing on education legislation passed during the 68th legislative session. This discussion will be held on December 13, 2023, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM via Zoom and will be moderated by the Office of Public Instruction’s Chief Legal Counsel, Rob Stutz. These are open opportunities for parents, families, teachers, school leaders, and legislators to participate. The theme is Local Accountability: How Recent Legislation Affects Families, Students, and Communities.
“HB 352 focuses on programs for families that will increase reading proficiency for children beginning in kindergarten through 3rd grade,” said Superintendent Elsie Arntzen. “A strong foundation in reading leads to higher academic success. I encourage all parents, grandparents, and families to join us for this discussion to learn how to utilize the programs offered in this legislation.”
The December discussion will focus on HB 352, Early Literacy Intervention. HB 352 identifies early literacy targeted intervention to mean any of the following:
- a classroom-based early literacy program
- a home-based literacy program
- an early literacy jumpstart program
The meeting agenda can be found here and a summary of the legislation can be found here.
The recordings of past discussions and dates for future discussions are available on OPI’s Parent Resources page. Please join the discussion with your microphone muted as instructions will be given on how and when you will be able to chime in, to keep the meeting running smoothly.
