Superintendent Arntzen to Host Fifth Community Discussion on Education Legislation
HELENA – Superintendent Arntzen will host the fifth monthly virtual community discussion focusing on education legislation passed during the 68th legislative session. This discussion will be held on October 25, 2023, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM via Zoom and will be moderated by the Office of Public Instruction’s Chief Legal Counsel, Rob Stutz. These are open opportunities for parents, families, teachers, school leaders, and legislators to participate. The theme is Local Accountability: How Recent Legislation Affects Families, Students, and Communities.
“There must never be discrimination in public schools. Period.” said Superintendent Elsie Arntzen. “Education must be focused on math, reading, and science, not on issues that are parents' responsibilities per HB 361. A consistent grievance policy through HB 504 allows for direct communication for parents with school officials. Montana parents are the important component of successful education.”
The October discussion will focus on legislation addressing parental rights in education:
- HB 361, An Act Providing That use of a name and sex by a student is not discrimination
- HB 504, Revise school laws to require trustees to adopt a grievance policy
The meeting agenda can be found here.
The recordings of past discussions and dates for future discussions are available on OPI’s Parent Resources page. Please join the discussion with your microphone muted as instructions
