January 13, 2020

HELENA—Superintendent of Public Instruction Elsie Arntzen welcomed Montana Legislators back to Helena on Monday as they begin their Legislative Week. Legislators will be gathering in Helena for interim committee meetings, training, and to discuss the possibility of moving to annual legislative sessions.

The Office of Public Instruction will have specialists at the Fan Window in the Capitol throughout the week to provide information and answer legislator questions on important topics related to education including student safety, mental health, career & technical education, innovative & transformational learning, and assessment.

“I am pleased to welcome Montana’s citizen legislators back to Helena as they consider important issues on behalf of the people of Montana. I want to ensure that education remains a top priority in the Capitol halls,” Superintendent of Public Instruction Elsie Arntzen said Monday. “The OPI will be available throughout the week to provide information on some of the most important topics to the success of Montana students.”

Today, specialists from the OPI’s Health & Safety Division will be in the Fan Window from 8:00am-3:00pm discussing safety and mental health as part of the Montana Hope initiative. Tomorrow, specialists from the OPI’s CTE division will be discussing career readiness and individualized learning as part of the Montana Ready initiative. On Thursday, Montana’s Assessment Director will be sharing information on statewide testing as it relates to student progress as part of the Montana Learn initiative.

The OPI’s digital communications team will also be in the capitol throughout the week interviewing legislators as part of a “CTE Champions” video series.
