HELENA – After nomination by teachers and principals, Superintendent Elsie Arntzen has selected this year’s remarkable high school students to represent Montana as delegates and alternates in the Senate Youth Delegation. Two Seniors from Gallatin High School, Chase Casey and Melaina Springer, will join Senator Steve Daines and Senator Jon Tester in representing Montana during the 60th annual United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) Washington Week, to be held March 6 - 9, 2022.

"Montana is proud to send Chase and Melaina to the center of our government to understand our great republic," said Superintendent Arntzen. "My father, an American history teacher in Billings, also provided a path for young leaders as these teachers in Bozeman have for their students. Now more than ever, it is time for youth to understand the role of government.”

The Office of Public Instruction each year coordinates Montana’s United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) Scholarship. Two Montana students win $10,000 each in scholarships and a Washington Week Experience, which will be online again this year. Last year’s 2021 youth delegates were Georgia Balius, representing Foothills Community Christian School in Great Falls, and Trinity Rieger, representing Plevna High School.

“Congratulations to Chase and Melaina for being selected to represent Montana in the United States Senate Youth Program. This achievement was well-earned through their leadership and studies,” Senator Daines said. “Chase and Melaina have a bright future ahead of them and will continue to make Montana proud!”

“Congratulations to Chase and Melaina on their selection to the 2022 United States Senate Youth Program,” said Senator Tester. “This program has a long history of shaping the leaders of tomorrow, and I’m looking forward to getting to know both students and seeing the new skills and experiences they gain for the Treasure State.”
