Superintendent Arntzen Seeks Applications for Negotiated Rulemaking Committee on Student Assessment Rules
HELENA – Superintendent Arntzen is seeking parents, teachers, school leaders, and community members to participate in the Negotiated Rulemaking process for the Chapter 56 student assessment rules. Those interested in participating in the Negotiated Rulemaking Committee (NRC) must submit an application by January 22, 2024. The NRC will ensure that Montana teachers have high-quality assessments to guide student learning in preparation for college and career readiness.
“These new rules will reflect the through-year model of the MAST program,” said Superintendent Elsie Arntzen. “Montana is leading the nation in reimaging innovative ways of measuring student achievement. This is a wonderful opportunity to be part of a historic change benefiting Montana students, parents, teachers, and schools.”
The following members must be represented in the NRC:
- Taxpayer
- Parent
- K-12 Educator
- K-12 Administrator
- K-12 Business Manager
- K-12 District School Board Trustee
- Higher Education faculty member
- Montana Tribal representative
The time commitment for members includes at least one full day of in-person or hybrid meetings, along with document review. The rulemaking process is expected to be completed in February 2024. Travel costs, which include mileage, meal per diem, and lodging will be reimbursed at the state rate for members participating in person.
