Superintendent Arntzen Opens Applications for Three Negotiated Rulemaking Committees
HELENA – Superintendent Arntzen has began the process of revising the English Language Learners, Math, and World Languages Content Standards. This process requires the use of Negotiated Rulemaking Committees (NRC) according to § 20-7-101, MCA. Superintendent Arntzen is seeking applicants to participate in each of the three NRCs.
“Public participation in our education system reflects greater transparency,” said Superintendent Elsie Arntzen. “Creating innovative and meaningful changes in our state content standards must lead to higher student achievement. I encourage all Montana parents, community members, teachers, and school leaders to add their voices to this process as members of this process.”
The Superintendent is seeking applications from interested parties to serve on one of three committees. Qualifying individuals are likely to be significantly affected by the proposed rule amendment, including individuals from the following groups:
- School District Trustees
- K-12 Administrators
- K-12 Teachers
- Higher Education Faculty
- School business officials
- Parents
- Taxpayers
Members of the NRCs will be selected based on the following criteria:
- Cultural Diversity
- Geography/Location
- Relevant Content Experience
- District and School Size
- Grade Levels Served
The NRCs will meet multiple times between:
- July and August 2023 – English Language Learners
- September and December 2023 – Math
- September and December 2023 – World Languages
