HELENA – Superintendent Arntzen is honoring all Montana school lunch heroes on May 3, 2024, School Lunch Hero Day. The Montana School Nutrition Programs 2022-2023 Annual Report states that 19.5 million meals were served in Montana schools during the 2022-2023 school year. School lunch is provided to 69,420 students each day and 39.5% of all Montana students qualify for free or reduced-price school meals.

“We are all Montana proud of the many school lunch heroes that serve our children every day,” said Superintendent Elsie Arntzen. “Gathering as a community around a table to share a meal is an important part of each student’s school day. Thank you to all of the school nutrition experts who put our Montana students first.”

School Lunch Hero Day, celebrated annually since 2013, was designated by The School Nutrition Association and Jarrett Krosoczka, author of the “Lunch Lady” graphic novel series. School Lunch Hero Day provides an opportunity for parents, students, school staff, and communities to thank those who provide healthy meals to nearly 30 million students across America each school day.
