Superintendent Arntzen Celebrates Women in Government
HELENA – Superintendent Elsie Arntzen will celebrate Montana women in government on March 22, 2023, in the state capitol rotunda from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM. The month of March has been nationally recognized as Women’s History Month since 1981. Montana has a long history of women serving in government, from the first woman elected to the US House of Representatives, Jeannette Rankin in 1917, to making up one-third of the elected officials at the state level. Superintendent of Public Instruction Elsie Arntzen and Lieutenant Governor Kristen Juras will deliver remarks during the celebration.
“This is about honoring all the women of Montana who have served our state and helped to shape our future,” said Superintendent Elsie Arntzen. “It is my pleasure to showcase the impactful women in our state government today. I encourage all to join us in celebrating all of these wonderful women leaders.”
Currently, women hold the following number of seats in state government:
- 48 of 150 State Legislators
- 3 of 7 Supreme Court Justices
- 3 of 6 Constitutional Officers, this includes the Lieutenant Governor
