HELENA—Superintendent Elsie Arntzen congratulates Monforton Elementary School, a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School awardee. Monforton Elementary was designated as a Blue Ribbon School based on overall academic excellence and efforts to achieve high levels of student success. Monforton students received high proficiency ranks in both math and reading statewide assessment scores during the 2020-2021 school year (two school years ago):

  • Monforton’s Reading proficiency was 68.4% and Montana’s Reading proficiency was 46.4%
  • Monforton’s Math proficiency was 62.6% and Montana’s Math proficiency was 35.6%

“Monforton Elementary School has made Montana proud by focusing on the basics of Math and Reading! Join me in honoring the Bozeman community as they help their students achieve educational excellence,” said Superintendent Elsie Arntzen. “Monforton Elementary is another example of our public schools investing in academic success by putting our Montana students first.”

The National Blue Ribbon School designation is a highly prestigious recognition from the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) that only a few Montana schools earn each year.  This morning, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona announced 297 schools across the country that earned this recognition.  which is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. The DOE recognizes two performance categories:

  • Exemplary High-Performing Schools are among their state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.
  • Exemplary Achievement Gap-Closing Schools are among their state’s highest performing schools in closing achievement gaps between a school’s student groups and all students.
