Superintendent Arntzen Announces New Director of Career & Technical Education

June 9, 2020

HELENA— Superintendent of Public Instruction Elsie Arntzen announced that Shannon Boswell has been hired as the new Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE) at the Montana Office of Public Instruction.

“Ms. Boswell’s strong background in Agricultural Education and previous work in the OPI’s CTE Division will bring the experience and leadership necessary to ensure students are Montana Ready,” Superintendent Arntzen said Tuesday. “The OPI is continuing to expand the promotion of CTE programs in Montana’s schools to prepare students for careers in high-demand industries in our state. Shannon’s leadership will help guide these community efforts to succeed.”

Shannon most recently served as the OPI’s interim-CTE Director and was previously the OPI’s Agricultural Education Specialist. She will oversee CTE programs including Agriculture, Health Sciences, Industrial Technology, Business, and Family & Consumer Sciences. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural and Environmental Education and a Master of Agriculture Degree from West Virginia University.

“As a product of Career and Technical Education programs, I am excited to continue working with schools across Montana to ensure our students are provided with opportunities to succeed. Building statewide partnerships with business and industry, state agencies, and post-secondary partners is what CTE is all about. This is how we work to ensure we are providing the best opportunities for Montana students, growing our workforce needs, and ensuring that our students are Montana Ready for the next chapter of their lives,” said Shannon Boswell.

Increasing CTE availability in Montana schools is part of Superintendent Arntzen’s Montana Ready initiative to promote career and college readiness. You can learn more about CTE on the OPI’s website.
