HELENA – Superintendent Arntzen announced the selection of two Montana high school students to represent Montana as delegates in the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP). Jesse Ian Malcolm McCormick, a senior at Sentinel High School in Missoula, and Faith Vyn You, a junior at Hellgate High School in Missoula, will join Senator Jon Tester and Senator Steve Daines in representing Montana during the 62nd annual USSYP Washington Week, to be held March 2-9, 2024.

“Congratulations, Jesse and Faith, you have made us all Montana proud,” said Superintendent Elsie Arntzen. “These student leaders reflect the passion and dedication of all our Montana students. Civics education has been one of my top priorities, which is why I revised our Social Studies Content Standards and our Graduation requirements to include robust civics and government instruction.”

Each year the Office of Public Instruction coordinates Montana’s USSYP Scholarship. Every year, two Montana students are chosen to participate in the USSYP along with 102 other students from around the country and each student receives a $10,000 scholarship. Two alternate delegates are also chosen each year. Montana’s 2024 alternates are Wilson Freer, a senior at Hellgate High School in Missoula, and Ravenor Davion, a senior at Gallatin High School in Bozeman.

“Congratulations to Montana’s 2024 U.S. Senate Youth Program delegates,” said Senator Steve Daines. “Jesse and Faith, both from Missoula, Montana, will represent the Treasure State well as they travel to Washington, D.C. to learn more about the federal government and further their civics education. It will be great to have a little more Montana here in our nation’s capital!”

“Congratulations to Jesse and Faith, this year’s U.S. Senate Youth Program delegates,” said Senator Jon Tester. “Thanks to their hard work and dedication to their communities, these two young leaders have proven themselves to be among the best and brightest in Big Sky Country. I feel confident that the future is in good hands with students like Jesse and Faith as our next generation of leaders, and I am looking forward to joining them in representing Montana during USSYP Washington Week.”
