Superintendent Announces District Eligibility for the Montana Reads Literacy Grant
HELENA – Superintendent Arntzen is pleased to announce that 89 Montana school districts are eligible to apply for the Montana Reads Literacy Grant. School districts’ eligibility was determined based on the percentage of economically disadvantaged students and the 2022-2023 reading and writing proficiency levels. Eligible districts must submit an application that includes a plan to implement comprehensive literacy instruction and address the needs of students from birth through grade 12. Eligible districts will be contacted by phone and email to ensure awareness.
“Reading is the foundation of learning,” said Superintendent Elsie Arntzen. “The Montana Reads Grant focuses on literacy teaching and learning through the science of reading and professional development. I encourage all of our eligible districts to apply for this great opportunity.”
The Office of Public Instruction will host a series of virtual trainings to support districts in the application writing process beginning with an introductory webinar on January 10, 2025, to discuss grant requirements and the application process. Links to the webinar will be included in the eligibility correspondence.
Montana Reads provides evidence-based literacy resources, professional development, and an emphasis on teacher leadership and mentorship opportunities. The program will foster communities of practice by establishing a Literacy Leadership Network and ensure long-term sustainability through advanced implementation sciences professional learning.
