State Superintendent Arntzen Announces Montana Afterschool Grant
HELENA—State Superintendent Elsie Arntzen today announced the availability of the Montana Afterschool Grant. The $3.8 million grant is provided through congressional action as part of the federal American Rescue Plan’s Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Funding. The Afterschool Grant will fulfill objectives outlined in the State’s ARP ESSER Plan as provided by federal law; funds were allocated by the Montana Legislature through House Bill 632.
“Afterschool programming reinforces what students have learned during the school day in a safe environment,” State Superintendent Elsie Arntzen said. “Each distinct community conducts afterschool activities to suit its own unique needs. The Montana Afterschool Grant enhances and expands student access to quality afterschool programming. I thank Congress and the Montana Legislature for recognizing the importance of learning continuity for young students,” Arntzen added.
The $3.8 million grant is available to qualifying, established non-profits and schools over a three-year grant period. These grants are reviewed for progress each year. Awards will be given based on an allocation formula that considers program location, students served, and community needs. Grants will be awarded to qualified applicants while funding is available. Eligibility guidelines and an Intent to Apply Form are available on the Office of Public Instruction’s website starting today, October 22, at https://opi.mt.gov/COVID-19-Information/ESSER/Montana-ESSER-After-School-Grant.
