Office of Public Instruction Receives $100,000 Montana Healthcare Foundation Grant to Support School Wellness

HELENA— The Office of Public Instruction (OPI) has received a $100,000 grant from the Montana Healthcare Foundation to support the Foundation’s new initiative that will create school-based health centers in communities with high needs. The goal of the initiative is to support partnerships between schools and healthcare organizations to bring high-quality school-based services to students, families, staff, and communities in need of support. This grant will support the OPI’s Montana Hope initiative in the areas of social-emotional support, mental health, and suicide prevention.
“Montana’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey has long shown that our students face some of the highest rates of youth suicide and mental health crises in the nation,” Superintendent of Public Instruction Elsie Arntzen said Tuesday. “This grant will help support the OPI’s partnerships with community-based health organizations to support students and provide them with hope for a brighter future. The COVID-19 outbreak makes this work even more crucial.”
