FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HELENA - The Montana Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission (MIC3) and the Montana Office of Public Instruction are proud to announce they are accepting applications and nominations for Montana’s Purple Star Schools and Purple Star Champions Awards.

The Purple Star Awards recognize the Montana schools and individual champions that have displayed extraordinary commitment to supporting our military children and their families. This is the second year MIC3 and OPI will be recognizing our schools with Purple Star School Awards; 2021 marks the first year for the Purple Star Champions Award.

“As one of the first states in the nation to proudly recognize Purple Star Champions, the Montana Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission (MIC3) is incredibly proud to put a spotlight on the passionate people in our communities that go above and beyond to serve our military children and their families,” stated BG (Ret.) Commissioner Hal Stearns.

“Military families often endure hardships of relocating and separation,” State Superintendent Elsie Arntzen said.  “We honor this sacrifice by building up communities that are well equipped to support these families in and out of times of hardship.”

In 2020, five Montana schools were recognized in the first round of Purple Star School Awards. These schools have gone above and beyond being military friendly, through a maintained commitment to serve their military students and families they continually honor the sacrifice military families make. Similar to the Purple Star School Award, the Purple Star Champion Award will be a designation for a military-friendly administrator, educator, community supporter, or school staff member that has shown a major commitment to military connected students and/or families.

Nominations for both awards will be accepted from August 1, 2021 to October 31, 2021. The Awardee will be announced November 30, 2021. Please visit here as you consider nominating any schools or champions for a Purple Star Award.
