HELENA- House Bill 252 (the STARS Act), a significant step forward in increasing teacher pay and improving student outcomes, passed the House Education Committee this week. The bill aims to increase teacher salaries, address the high costs of housing, and expand funding for work-based learning and dual credit.

HB 320 recognizes that every child has unique learning needs and that parents should have the flexibility to choose the best educational path for their students. The MAPPS bill allows for tax-credit-funded accounts that help families pay for qualified education expenses, including tuition, curriculum materials, tutoring, and career training programs in non-public schools.

“I thank the House Education Committee for their leadership on HB 252 and HB 320. HB 252 will ensure that Montana’s students receive a high-quality education while also making it more attractive for talented teachers to remain in our schools,” said Superintendent Susie Hedalen, “MAPPS will provide parents with additional resources to give their children the best possible education, regardless of where they are learning. Both bills are a step forward to improve education for the families of Montana”
