HELENA— The Montana Office of Public Instruction announced today that 2020 school and district report cards are available. The report cards are based on data from the previous school year. The federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires state, district, and school-level data regarding student performance to be displayed on report cards in a concise, understandable, and accessible manner for families and communities.

“Montana’s school report cards serve as a vehicle to spark community conversations about education,” Superintendent of Public Instruction Elsie Arntzen said Monday. “To further drive student success, I hope that parents, teachers, school trustees, and school administrators will reflect on their local data. However, we know that Montana is a local control state and many local indicators of student success might not be reflected in these report cards”

The report cards can be viewed along with additional information on the OPI’s report card webpage.

Montana first issued school report cards last year under ESSA. An additional data point that has been added this year is school-level per-pupil-expenditures broken out by federal, state, and local sources. Last week, the OPI ran Montana’s School Accountability System and discussed with school leaders their Comprehensive Support & Improvement, Targeted Support & Improvement, or Universal status.
