Commission Meets February 11, 2026

(HELENA)--- The Montana State Library (MSL) Commission will meet at the Montana State Library (1201 11th Ave, Helena, MT 59601) and on Zoom on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.

The Montana State Library Commission meets at least six times per year.

The Commission will consider action on:

  • Consent Agenda: December 10, 2025, minutes
  • 2nd Quarter Fiscal Year 2026 Financial Report
  • Commission Bylaws
  • Approve initial Montana Geospatial Information Act grant awards
  • Consider whether to hold October business meeting in Miles City
  • Consider whether to participate in the Montana Library Association (MLA) Conference
  • Discussion with MLA President, Sean Anderson, on topics including but not limited to, MLA mission and goals, relationship with the American Library Association, history and clarification of conference presenters' registration fees, and hosting Conversations with the Commission on Zoom
  • 2026 Commission goals and next steps

The Commission will discuss and receive informational updates on:

  • Draft Commission newsletter review
  • Initial review of 10.102.1159(2)-(12) Administrative Rules of Montana Serving the Community and discussion of next steps
  • Neutrality
  • Continued Review of the Continuing Education Handbook- Committee
  • Informational presentation on the vision for the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Montana State Government from Chris Tarabochia, Chief AI Officer
  • Informational presentation on AI applications for GIS from Matt Sheehan, geospatial and artificial intelligence specialist

  • FY 26 Work Plan 
  • 2nd quarter staffing memo
  • 2nd quarter grants and contracts report
  • Continuing Education and Certification dashboard
  • FY 26 2nd quarter courses taken for credit

  • EIBC Montana Geospatial Information Account revenue report

Commission Goals and Objectives - Commission:

  • Annual business calendar
  • Review and prioritize agenda items for April business meeting
  • Spring Federation meeting dates
  • Select special meeting data to award Montana Geospatial Information Act grants

Members of the public who wish to share public comments on an agenda item or any matter that is within the jurisdiction of the Commission may submit the comments by February 9, at noon here: Public Comment

Comments may also be submitted in person or on Zoom at the meeting.
