Montana Arts Council Announces Availability of $30,000 in Artist Innovation Awards
HELENA, Mont., August 4, 2021. We expect artists to make new things—experimenting with established media, expressing ideas in new ways—but some artists truly push boundaries. To recognize these creators, the Montana Arts Council established the Artist Innovation Awards (AIA), and applications for 2021 honors are now open. Six Montana artists will be selected to receive $5,000 grants in recognition for their commitment to experimentation and a willingness to take risks in their work.
Awarded every other year, AIA acknowledges Montana artists who show dedication to their creative pursuits and strive for discovery in their artwork. Professional artists of all disciplines and at all career stages are encouraged to apply and to think broadly about how their work is innovative. This might include new methods, audience outreach, business approaches, perspectives, elements, forms, materials, technology integration, or processes that result from study and experimentation. Innovation applies to both traditional art and contemporary art.
The application process is available online at art.mt.gov/application; submissions are due by 11:59 PM on September 21, 2021. To view AIA guidelines and to learn more about the application process, visit art.mt.gov/aia
