Gov. Gianforte Announces 2021-2022 Montana Poet Laureate

HELENA, Mont., August 25, 2021.  Governor Greg Gianforte is pleased to announce that the 2021-2022 Montana Poet Laureate is Mark Gibbons. A Montana native, Mark holds an MFA in creative writing from the University of Montana. An author of 10 volumes of poetry, he is a 2013 recipient of the Montana Arts Council’s Artist Innovation Award and is the editor of FootHills Publishing’s Montana Poets Series. His most recent collection, “In the Weeds,” was recently published by Drumlummon Institute. Mark has served as a mentor and judge for Poetry Out Loud, the national student recitation competition, and taught poetry in schools for the past three decades.

On behalf of all Montanans, the Governor wishes to congratulate Mark Gibbons for his rich contributions to Montana’s literary arts and for his well-deserved appointment as our new Poet Laureate.
