FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Montana’s Percent for Art Program Invites Submissions for Public Art at Historic Romney Hall

Helena, Mont., December 29, 2020. For just short of 100 years, MSU-Bozeman’s Romney Hall has served a variety of functions, from gymnasium to martial arts dojo to rock climbing hangout. Now renovations are under way which will allow Romney Hall to serve the campus far into its second century, and a key facet of this effort will be the commissioning of new artwork for the building. Established in 1983, Montana’s Percent for Art legislation provides that a portion of funds for new or renovated state buildings will be allocated for public art.

To have art, the project needs artists. Open to those working in all creative disciplines, the selection process will seek to select artwork appropriate to the history of Romney Hall, MSU-Bozeman and the Bozeman area which is of high artistic merit created in the spirit of the future of Romney Hall, and embracing diversity and inclusion on campus.

For artists wishing to submit proposals, the January 8, 2021 deadline is fast approaching. Full details for the project’s overview, submission requirements, selection process, timeline, payment and other details are available as a downloadable PDF from the Montana Arts Council at:

MSU Bozeman Romney Hall Public Art FY21.pdf

To submit a proposal for the Romney Hall project, artists may follow the link in the Call for Artists PDF above or by visiting the Montana Arts Council’s Application Portal.

Montana’s Percent for Art program is administered by the Montana Arts Council, the state agency tasked with promoting the arts, arts education, our creative economy, and creative opportunities for all Montanans.
