State administration committee meeting moved to June

Legislative Branch
  • March 16 2020

The State Administration and Veterans' Affairs Interim Committee (SAVA) will not be meeting on March 25 as previously scheduled.  The agenda items for the March meeting will be moved to June for a two-day SAVA meeting June 17-18.

The June 17-18 meeting agenda will encompass:

  • further work on the HJ 23 veteran service officer (VSO) study, including information about how VSO services are structured and funded in Michigan, South Dakota, and Minnesota, and discussion about whether or how to provide for county veteran service officers in Montana;

  • further refinement of a preliminary bill draft to update and revise statutes on accessibility for disabled electors under the HJ 3 study;

  • further review and refinement of preliminary bill drafts to update Montana's lobbying laws;

  • informational briefings on signature gathering requirements for initiatives and minor party ballot access, state flag protocols, and Office of Public Instruction programs children of military families.

The SAVA committee is also the statutory oversight committee for public employee pensions and will continue to monitor the pension stress test studies on PERS and TRS. These studies are being conducted by the retirement system actuaries at the request of the Legislative Finance Committee (LFC) under HB 715. The LFC meeting scheduled for March 24, which included a briefing on the results of these stress test studies, has been postponed until further notice due to public health considerations.

For more information about SAVA activities, please visit the committee's webpage, or contact Sheri Scurr, committee staff, at sscurr@mt.gov or 406-444-3596.
