Legislative Audit Committee Meets June 15-16

The Legislative Audit Committee (LAC)  meets Monday, June 15 and Tuesday, June 16, 2020, in room 317 of the state Capitol building and remotely. The Legislative Audit Committee ensures accountability for the disposition and use of public funds, and the efficient and effective management of state government programs. The committee meets regularly to review Independent Audit Reports, interact with audited agencies, and advise and consult with the Legislative Auditor and the staff of the Legislative Audit Division.

Financial and financial-compliance reports scheduled for review in June include: Montana Board of Investments, State of Montana, Department of Public Health and Human Services, Office of Public Instruction, Montana State Library Commission, Montana Single Audit Report, and Department of Agriculture.

Scheduled for review is a contract audit of the Dawson Community College.

There will also be focus on four performance audits titled Short-Term Lodging and Rental Vehicle Taxes: Keeping Pace With an Evolving Marketplace, Effectiveness of Contracted Community Corrections Programs in Reducing Recidivism, A Comparative Evaluation of State-Operated and Contracted Men’s Prisons and State Employee Settlements: Trends, Transparency, and Administration. Additionally, there will be an information systems audit scheduled for a hearing which addresses the Data Security and Operational Performance of Montana’s Computer-Assisted Mass Appraisal and Tax System (Orion).

Senate members of the LAC are Dee Brown (Chair), R-Hungry Horse; Jason Ellsworth, R-Hamilton; John Esp, R-Big Timber; Pat Flowers, D-Belgrade; Mary McNally, D-Billings; and Tom Jacobson, D-Great Falls. House members are Kim Abbott, D-Helena; Dan Bartel, R-Lewistown; Matt Regier, R-Columbia Falls; Tom Burnett, R-Bozeman; Emma Kerr-Carpenter, D-Billings; and Denise Hayman (Vice Chair), D-Bozeman.

The LAC meeting convenes at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15 and 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16. An agenda and other committee information can be found on the LAC's website.

This meeting is open to the public. The meeting will be streamed live on www.leg.mt.gov and broadcast on the Montana Public Affairs Network (MPAN) if you wish to view only. An archived recording of the meeting will also be made immediately available on leg.mt.gov.

Members of the public who wish to participate may join the meeting. If you want to participate, email Hunter.McClure@mt.gov / amaciver@mt.gov with your name and a request and you will be sent a calendar invite with instructions for joining and participating in the call by 5 p.m. the day before the call. Due to COVID‐19 public health concerns, the public is discouraged from physically attending meetings in person due to limited social distancing space in the hearing room. A time will be provided on the agenda for oral public comment. At that time, members of the public who have joined may "raise their hand" and participate after being recognized by the presiding officer or Zoom manager. Comments will be taken in order. Written public comment may be sent via email in advance of the meeting to Hunter.McClure@mt.gov / amaciver@mt.gov and will be provided to committee members.
