BROWNING, Mont. – Joining Senator Susan Webber, D-Browning, Governor Greg Gianforte today visited the Chief Earl Old Person Memorial Highway, unveiled by Blackfeet Nation in early July.

“The new Chief Earl Old Person Memorial Highway honors the life and lasting legacy of a remarkable leader, advocate, educator, storyteller, and song singer for the Blackfeet people,” Gov. Gianforte said. “Chief Old Person sets an example for all Montanans to follow through for his love for people, unparalleled strength of character, dedication to service, and commitment to preserving cultural heritage.”

Sen. Webber brought a bill forward in the 68th Legislature to dedicate a portion of U.S. Highway 89 to Chief Earl Old Person, the longest-serving elected tribal leader in the country. The governor signed the bill into law in April.

While in Browning, the governor also met with the Blackfeet Tribal Business Council.
