In June, Intermountain Health broke ground on the new 14-floor, 737,000-square-foot facility located east of the current hospital building. Upon opening, all current services offered at St. Vincent will transfer to the new facility. Construction is expected to be completed in 2029.

Before touring the construction project of the new facility, the governor meeting with Lee Boyles, president of St. Vincent Regional Hospital, and other hospital administrators to discuss the investment and demand for care.

Intermountain Health projects its annual contribution to the local economy totals $1 billon and expects additional impact throughout the construction. At the high point in construction, Intermountain Health anticipates up to 1,200 total workers are expected to be involved in the project.

“The new hospital is poised to be a significant driver of economic growth in Yellowstone County and the city of Billings,” said Lee Boyles, president of St. Vincent Regional Hospital and the Montana and Wyoming market of Intermountain Health. “We look forward to building a broad coalition of philanthropic, clinical, and community partners committed to transforming healthcare in our region.”

Boyles outlined the need for the replacement hospital to address the current needs of patients across the region, while accommodating both long-term population growth and future healthcare needs of the community.

Currently, St. Vincent Regional Hospital offers dozens of services and a 286-bed capacity in addition to St. Vincent Children’s. The hospital employs more than 1,700 caregivers and over 500 physicians and advanced care professionals.

Increasing access to quality care for Montanans is a top priority for Gov. Gianforte. Working with the legislature, the governor secured a historic $300 million investment to improve the delivery of behavioral health care in Montana.
