PLAINS, Mont. – Governor Greg Gianforte today presented his annual Forest Products Award to J. Shar Timber Harvesting, a family-owned and operated cut-to-length timber enhancement company in Libby.
“Creating healthier, more resilient Montana forests takes investments and great partners in the forest products industry like J. Shar Timber Harvesting,” Gov. Gianforte said. “I’m grateful for the hard work of Jared and his team to steward our forests, reduce wildfire risk, and grow our economy.”

Founded by Libby native Jared Fitchett, J. Shar Timber Harvesting sustainably harvests timber using tethered logging equipment on private, industrial, agency land. This innovative approach allows the company to work on steep slopes while maintaining a low impact on soil and water resources.
The governor presented Fitchett with the award this afternoon at the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation’s Plains Unit Office.
Gov. Gianforte’s Forest Products Award recognizes an outstanding person or entity for their work to actively manage Montana forests, responsibly develop forested resources, and/or promote the use of Montana wood products.
Shar Timber Harvesting is the third recipient of the governor’s award, following Marks Lumber in 2021 and Bear Paw Forestry in 2022.
