HELENA, Mont. – Visiting with welding and machining students at Capital High School, Governor Greg Gianforte today highlighted the importance of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs in empowering students with in-demand skills and providing a highly skilled, highly qualified workforce for Montana.

“Many great-paying, in-demand careers require specialized skills, and CTE programs empower our future workforce with those skills,” Gov. Gianforte said. “Student success, and ultimately the future of Montana, depend on classroom innovation, individualized learning, and work-based learning like what’s offered here at Capital High.”

During the visit, the governor met with students in a welding and machining class taught at the high school by Jim Weber. In addition to teaching the class, Weber opens doors to opportunity for students by connecting them with employers in Helena.

“This program is the reason I chose to attend Capital High,” Bridger Olson, a Capital High School student, said. “Because of it, I know about job openings and opportunities for after graduation.”

Ensuring students have access to the best education possible to prepare them for the future through individualized and work-based learning is a central element of the governor’s Montana Comeback Plan.
