Governor Gianforte Named Chair of Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus

Leads bipartisan coalition of governors to protect America’s way of life

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Governor Greg Gianforte today announced he will serve as chair of the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus, a bipartisan group of governors dedicated to protecting the interests of sportsmen and women across the United States.

“It’s an honor to serve as chair of the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus,” Gov. Gianforte said. “As we’ve demonstrated in Montana, governors have an important responsibility to protect our way of life. I look forward to working with fellow governors across the nation to protect the traditions of sportsmen and women from unnecessary federal overreach.”

The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, established in 2009, formed the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus (GSC). The bipartisan caucus has worked to protect and advance the interests of sportsmen and women, while shaping policy that is designed to enhance professional fish and wildlife management.

The GSC is dedicated to improving communication between governors to support and enhance policies and regulations needed to promote and advance hunting, angling, recreational shooting and trapping. As chair, Gov. Gianforte will lead the caucus in its efforts.

The GSC serves as a compliment to the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus and National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses by working with three separate groups who have intimate knowledge of, and can properly represent, different regions across America.

Protecting Montana’s way of life is a top priority for the governor.

Since taking office, the governor and the Montana State Legislature have strengthened protections for the Second Amendment and protected citizens’ retirement security from Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investing, which discriminates against many industries, including the firearms industry. Montana is home to over 150 innovative firearm and ammunition businesses, the highest per capita in the nation.

Additionally, the governor has expanded public access to more than 100,000 acres of public lands through new Wildlife Management Areas in the Big Snowy Mountains, Bad Rock Canyon, and along the Yellowstone River with expanded access at Mount Haggin, and a new state park at Somers Beach.
