BOZEMAN, Mont. – During a ceremony at the American Legion in Bozeman, Governor Greg Gianforte yesterday joined veterans and their families to recognize the final three recipients of the 2022 Montana Governor’s Veteran Commendation.
“Veterans are the heart and soul of our Montana communities. It’s my honor to meet them where they live and work, and recognize those nominated by their peers for their service to country and community,” Gov. Gianforte said. “On behalf of a very grateful state, thank you to all Montana veterans and their families.”

During the ceremony, the governor honored military veterans, including U.S. Marine Corps Colonel Gregory Harbac, Army National Guard Staff Sergeant Dallas Warren Thompson, and U.S. Army Staff Sergeant James Howe.
The governor presented them with a Montana State Flag flown over the State Capitol in their honor and letters thanking them for their lives of service to country and community.
Thanking the governor for his award and highlighting the strong support of the Bozeman veteran community present at the ceremony, Harbac said, “There is a whole team of people in this room that make it work for me. I am not alone. No different than you, Governor, having your own team to run this State of Montana.”
Fifty-one veterans received the award in 2022.
This summer, the governor sought nominations for the 2023 Montana Governor’s Veteran Commendation. Recipients will be announced tomorrow, ahead of Veterans Day on Saturday, November 11.
