Governor Gianforte Celebrates Innovation in Agriculture
Joins BASF Agricultural Solutions to introduce new canola seed
GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Governor Greg Gianforte this week joined BASF Agricultural Solutions to celebrate innovation in agriculture and introduce a new canola seed to Montana farmers.
“Agriculture is our number one industry in Montana, and we’re proud of our rich, generational history of feeding the world and providing world-class products,” Governor Gianforte said. “As demand continues to rise, innovation and the tireless work of Montana farmers will continue to move the agriculture industry forward. I’m grateful for BASF and their shared commitment to innovation, as the introduction of InVigor Gold will support our canola farmers and bolster our economy.”
During an event held at Providence University in Great Falls, the governor joined BASF and Montana farmers to unveil InVigor Gold, the companies’ latest innovation in canola seed designed with heat tolerance, inherent pod shatter resistance, and strong blackleg disease resistance.
“BASF is committed to helping farmers do the Biggest Job on Earth through innovation, and we are thrilled to add to our trusted family of InVigor products with InVigor Gold,” said Bryan Perry, Head of U.S. Seeds and Traits for BASF. “InVigor Gold will unlock the full genetic potential of canola in new areas and help farmers improve yield performance through resilience to heat – a groundbreaking advancement in canola seed.”
BASF announced InVigor Gold delivers heat tolerance and yield stability that will allow these hybrids to grow in hotter and drier environments and in lower organic soil compared to other canola hybrids.
For over 25 years, BASF has led the canola seed market with its InVigor hybrids for use in food production, biofuels, and industrial uses. Montana is anticipated to be the first state in the United States to have access to InVigor Gold in 2027, pending regulatory approval.
Supporting innovation in agriculture is a top priority for Governor Gianforte. Since taking office, working with the Montana Department of Agriculture, the governor has made significant investments in the industry to add value to family farms and ranches and increase access to global markets.
