Governor Gianforte Celebrates Irish Heritage Day
HELENA, Mont. – Continuing a decades-long tradition at the Montana State Capitol, Governor Greg Gianforte today raised the Irish tricolor flag and proclaimed March 17, 2026, as Irish Heritage Day in Montana.
“Each year, we gather at our State Capitol to celebrate Montana’s rich Irish heritage and recognize the generations of Montanans of Irish descent who helped shape our great state,” Gov. Gianforte said. “Today, we honor the faith, tradition, and strong sense of community that Irish Americans have brought to Montana for generations.”

After raising the Irish tricolor flag to begin the celebration, the governor joined members of the Thomas Francis Meagher Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians to recognize Irish Heritage Day.
The celebration concluded with musical and dance performances in the Capitol Rotunda from the Pipes and Drums of the Black Devils and the Tiernan Irish Dancers.
Gov. Gianforte is the seventh Montana governor to participate in this 42-year-long tradition.
