HELENA, Mont. – After proclaiming Friday, May 6 School Lunch Hero Day in Montana and May 2-6 Teacher Appreciation Week in the state, Governor Greg Gianforte today joined Superintendent of Public Instruction Elsie Arntzen to recognize school lunch heroes and educators at Helena Middle School.

“School lunch heroes provide our kids with healthy, nutritious meals, and our educators work hard every day to prepare Montana students for their futures,” Gov. Gianforte said. “This week, we recognize them both for their important roles in the lives of Montana students.”

At Helena Middle School, the governor met with the school lunch heroes who ensure local middle schoolers are well nourished at school. The governor also met with educators to thank them for their noble work.

“In Montana, this is ‘Hug a Lunch Hero Day,’” Superintendent Elsie Arntzen said. “Our school lunchrooms are where friends gather around the table. I encourage everyone to thank our lunch heroes as they serve our students.”

To support Montana educators, the governor last year provided $2.5 million in incentives to improve starting teacher pay through the TEACH Act, or Tomorrow’s Educators Are Coming Home Act. Last week, the governor met with educators in Havre and Harlem who are benefiting from the program.
