Gov. Gianforte Selects Dutton/Brady School for National Christmas Tree Display
DUTTON, Mont. – Governor Greg Gianforte today announced the Dutton/Brady School art class was selected to represent Montana in the 2026 National Christmas Tree display in Washington, D.C. and visited students as they designed their ornaments for the national showcase.
“It’s exciting to have our Montana students take part in such a meaningful national tradition at this year’s National Christmas Tree celebration,” Gov. Gianforte said. “Through their artwork, these students are showcasing the best of the Treasure State with creativity and pride.”

During his visit, the governor met with elementary students as they designed and decorated their ornaments. The class is creating between 12 and 24 original ornaments, each accompanied by a short description sharing the meaning and inspiration behind their design.
“I liked making an ornament about Montana because I got to show what makes our state special,” said Cooper S., 4th grade student at Dutton/Brady School. “It’s really cool that people in Washington, D.C. will get to see it.”
The Dutton/Brady School art class was nominated by the governor to participate in the America Celebrates Ornaments program, a national initiative coordinated by the National Park Service, the National Park Foundation, and the White House Visitors Office.
The ornament program is part of a national effort tied to America250. Through America’s Field Trip, a nationwide contest led by the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission, students in grades 3 through 12 share their perspectives on America through artwork or writing. Some student work from this initiative is featured in the America Celebrates ornament display.
As part of the program, student-designed ornaments from across the country will decorate 59 trees surrounding the National Christmas Tree on the Ellipse near the White House. Each tree represents a U.S. state or territory.
“This was such a special opportunity for our students,” said art teacher Tara Offerdal. “They’ve taken a lot of pride in representing Montana, and it’s been exciting to watch them bring their ideas to life through each ornament.”
