Gov. Gianforte Participates in Flag Sojourn 250 Ceremony at State Capitol
HELENA, Mont. – Governor Greg Gianforte today joined the Montana 250th Commission and the Montana Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association for a ceremony at the Montana State Capitol to raise an American flag as it travels the country as part of the Flag Sojourn 250 initiative.
“In Montana, we value the Constitution, freedom, and the enduring promise of this great nation,” Gov. Gianforte said. “As this flag travels across the country to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our country, it serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made to protect our liberties and the responsibility to preserve them for future generations.”

As the country celebrates its Semiquincentennial on July 4, 2026, the National Flag Foundation (NFF) and America 250 partnered to send a single U.S. flag to every state, territory, and 26 military cemeteries in ten countries. Having completed travel to all U.S. territories and cemeteries on October 8, 2025, the flag is in its last stretch of visiting each state in the country.
The flag will next be flown in Wyoming and conclude its journey in Washington, D.C. in July, when the flag will formally be presented to the America 250th Committee and raised in the nation’s capital as a salute to national unity.
During the ceremony, the governor delivered remarks and joined the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton and the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard for the raising and lowering of the flag at the Peace Officers Memorial at the Montana State Capitol.
“The Flag Sojourn 250 is more than a journey, it is a solemn Sojourn. The Flag Sojourn 250 honors our nation’s most prized symbol and pays tribute to all our countrymen and women, including those who have given their lives in service to the ideals the flag represents,” Sheriff Dutton said.
