Governor Bullock, Senator Tester Welcome Major League Baseball to Montana

Governor Steve Bullock and Senator Jon Tester today sent a letter to Commissioner Robert Manfred welcoming Major League Baseball (MLB) to Montana to discuss concerns with the proposal to undermine Minor League Baseball (MiLB) in the state. MLB has discussed visiting Montana in the near future.

“We believe it is critically important for Major League Baseball (MLB) to see firsthand how dedicated folks in Great Falls, Billings, and Missoula are to supporting MiLB, and how important MiLB is to these communities and the future prosperity of MLB,” wrote Governor Bullock and Senator Tester. “We remain concerned by any proposals that would undermine the decades-long commitment these communities made to supporting Major League Baseball.”

In December, Bullock sent a letter to Commissioner Manfred urging MLB baseball to reconsider contracting MiLB in Montana and citing his commitment to working with MLB to protect America’s favorite pastime.

After meeting with Deputy MLB Commissioner Dan Halem in December, Tester secured a commitment from MLB to visit the state to see firsthand the positive impact MiLB has on Montana’s communities. Tester also urged Commissioner Manfred against the move, writing “now is not the time for MLB to reduce its role in baseball in rural America.”
