Dr. Emily Kaleczyc Selected as Assistant State Veterinarian for Montana
Helena, Mont. – The Montana Department of Livestock (MDOL) is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Emily Kaleczyc as the new assistant state veterinarian. Dr. Kaleczyc brings a wealth of veterinary and regulatory experience to the role, including a strong background in animal health programs, epidemiology, and public service.
A 2013 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Kaleczyc began her career in Helena, Montana, where she practiced mixed animal medicine before joining the Montana Department of Livestock, where she worked in the brucellosis program and in meat and poultry inspection. Most recently, Dr. Kaleczyc spent five years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) as a field veterinarian and epidemiologist. In that role, she gained extensive experience in disease investigation, emergency response, and national animal health surveillance programs.
"We are excited to welcome Dr. Kaleczyc back to the Department in this leadership role,” said Dr. Tahnee Szymanski, State Veterinarian. “Her broad experience at both the state and federal level, combined with her deep commitment to animal health and Montana’s livestock industry, make her an excellent fit for the position."
As assistant state veterinarian, Dr. Kaleczyc will support disease control and traceability efforts, regulatory oversight, and emergency response initiatives across the state. She will also work closely with producers, veterinarians, and partner agencies to advance the Department’s mission of protecting animal health and food safety in Montana.
The mission of the Montana Department of Livestock is to control and eradicate animal diseases, prevent the transmission of animal diseases to humans, and to protect the livestock industry from theft and predatory animals. For more information, visit www.liv.mt.gov.
