Montana DLI Unveils New Online Wage Claim Portal for Workers and Employers
HELENA, Mont. - The Montana Department of Labor & Industry (DLI) is launching a new online Wage and Hour Portal that gives workers a faster, easier way to report wage concerns while also giving employers a convenient way to comply with Montana’s wage and hour laws. The portal connects users with DLI’s Employment Standards Division through a secure online system available anytime.
“This portal supports a fair, predictable system for everyone,” said Sarah Swanson, Commissioner of Labor & Industry. “It gives workers a simple way to report concerns and a simple way for employers provide the necessary information for the Department to assess those concerns.”
The portal walks users through a series of questions, allows them to upload documents such as pay stubs or time sheets, and sends information directly to the Employment Standards Division for review. By gathering more complete information at the beginning of the process, the system will help staff review cases more efficiently and resolve issues more quickly for both workers and employers.
“Montanans should not have to take time off work, travel long distances, or navigate confusing paperwork to report a wage concern,” said Swanson. “This tool brings the process in line with how people already handle other important business -- securely and conveniently online.”
The Wage and Hour Portal is available to workers who believe they may not have been paid all wages owed, including minimum wage, overtime, final paychecks, vacation pay, commissions, earned bonuses, or other earned compensation. Anyone wanting to learn more about wage and hour laws can visit DLI’s website where you can find links to the relevant laws, FAQs, as well as helpful videos.
Montanans can still get help by phone, mail, or in person; the portal adds another convenient option and does not replace existing services. Wage claim forms remain available through Job Service offices across Montana, and the Employment Standards Division can be reached at 406-444-6543 for wage and hour information.
