DOC releases RFI to identify communities interested in hosting new women’s correctional facility
The Montana Department of Corrections recently issued a Request for Information (RFI) notice as part of its work to identify a location for a new women’s correctional facility. Interested communities are invited to respond by October 1.
“In Montana, we are focused on keeping our communities safe,” DOC Director Brian Gootkin said. “Thanks to the leadership of Governor Greg Gianforte and our legislative partners, we have a generational opportunity to invest in our correctional facilities. This RFI will inform our efforts by allowing Montana communities to let us know if they are interested in partnering with us on this mission.”
During the 2025 legislative session, the Legislature passed, and Governor Greg Gianforte signed into law, House Bill 833, which established the Future of Corrections fund with $246 million in funding to increase correctional capacity.
The RFI requests information about the availability of land, infrastructure, services, and workforce. It also asks respondents to describe community interest and support for the project.
