DOC exhibit to feature crime victims’ stories Feb. 7 in Billings
Survivors and victims of crimes in Montana will be honored Saturday, Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Montana Department of Corrections’ (DOC) “Empty Place at The Table” exhibit at the Veteran and Community Expo at the Billings Hotel and Convention Center, 1223 Mullowney Lane, in Billings.
This impactful exhibit is presented by the DOC’s Victim Services program. “Empty Place at The Table” is a traveling exhibit that highlights the stories of victims and survivors of crime.
The exhibit features place settings provided by the families of crime victims and survivors of crime representing the loss of loved ones or some part of themselves because of a criminal act against them. The place settings include personal items from victims and survivors of homicide, DUI/fatality, robbery, burglary, murdered and missing indigenous women, childhood sexual assault, and rape survivors.
“An empty place at the table speaks louder than words—honoring lives stolen by crime, while urging us to support survivors' healing and confront the lasting impact of crime,” said Victim Services Bureau Chief Jamie Rogers. “Together, through the efforts of Montana victim services, we amplify their voices and ensure they are never forgotten."
