HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Department of Commerce along with the Montana District Export Council announced today that GTUIT of Billings received the 2024 Montana Exporter of the Year Award. This honor recognizes Montana companies for their contributions to the state’s economic growth and prosperity through the sale of Montana products or services abroad.

The Montana DEC presented the award to GTUIT at the Montana World Trade Center’s World Trade & Investment Day today in Billings. A second celebration is planned for tomorrow at GTUIT’s production facility, also in Billings.

“The Montana Department of Commerce congratulates GTUIT on receiving the 2024 Exporter of the Year Award and thanks this innovative company for its contributions to Montana's economy,” said Montana Department of Commerce Acting Director Mandy Rambo.

In 2012, GTUIT started out with the goal of reducing oilfield gas flaring in Montana and North Dakota when oil production was expanding rapidly throughout the region. GTUIT essentially created the business of capturing waste gas being flared on remote oil well sites and turned it into a marketable product that significantly reduces air pollution, benefiting both the oil producer and the communities where these activities take place. GTUIT’s success in creating and developing this important niche within the oil and gas industry has allowed the company to expand into many other states as well as internationally.

“Manufacturing and exporting are a bi-partisan economic powerhouse that drives any community’s economic health,” says B.D. Erickson, chair of the Montana DEC. “That statement is proved true as a community can only trade the same dollar for goods or services six times before it is taxed out of existence. The more money a community has in circulation, the more prosperous it is. Once exhausted, the local economy is mostly dependent on tourism and exporting to draw in the fresh capital that can now be spent in the community. International trade is the highest form of this as it affects the entire nation the goods originated in. All exporters, especially an Exporter of the Year Award recipient, is worthy of our gratitude and recognition.”

GTUIT is a significant employer in Billings, with 73 employees in 2024. Its exports peaked at $3 million in 2024. Most of its product value is added in Montana; its export growth over the past several years has primarily been through exports to Angola, Colombia and Egypt.

GTUIT CEO Brian Cebull said, “This incredible honor is a testament to the ingenuity, dedication and relentless drive of the entire GTUIT team, whose work continues to bring Montana-born energy solutions to markets around the world. We are deeply grateful to the Montana DEC for recognizing our efforts and championing innovation on the global stage.”
