PHOTOGRAPHING THE HIGH PLAINS OF MONTANA TOPIC AT MHS
From the early days of photography, people have looked through the lens trying to capture the elusive beauty of Montana’s high plains.
On Thursday (April 20) at 6:30 p.m. at the Montana Historical Society Missoula artist and photographer Kristi Hager will present a free public program “Starting with Huffman: Photographers of Montana’s High Plains.”
L. A. Huffman was a Miles City photographer from the 1800s into the 1900s and visually recorded nearly every aspect of the frontier life of eastern Montana.
Like many photographers to follow, Huffman talk sweeping photos of the high plains in hot, cold, windy, dusty, muddy and lonely conditions. Hager will use photos to show how each photographer used the sky and geology to celebrate the wide open and often inverted landscape.
