DEER LODGE – Montana State Prison interim warden Jim Salmonsen today announced that inmate visitation will be temporarily reduced from four to two days a week while the prison addresses operational issues.

To allow staff to be reassigned to higher priority security posts, Salmonsen said that Montana State Prison is canceling inmate visitation on Thursdays and Fridays beginning August 16, 2018 until further notice.  Beginning the third week of August, MSP will be open for inmate visitation only on Saturdays and Sundays.

“Montana State Prison recognizes the importance of visitation; however, safety and security of the facility is our top priority.  We will return to normal visitation hours as soon as possible,” Salmonsen said.  “We are hoping that by getting the word out ahead of time, family and friends are able to plan accordingly.”

The Montana State Prison toll-free phone message service will provide scheduling updates beginning August 16, 2018 at 1-888-739-9122.
