MHS FREE 2ND SATURDAY FEATURES STAN LYNDE AND BIG TENT SALE
If you like famed cartoonist and author Stan Lynde and/or like shopping bargains, the Montana Historical Society’s free Second Saturday in September is one you won’t want to miss.
Admission to MHS is free from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 10) with Stan’s sister Lorretta presenting a special program, “Stan Lynde: The Early Years Growing Up on the Crow Reservation,” at 1 p.m.
The MHS Museum Store will have its annual Tent Sale on the front lawn of MHS on Friday and Second Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days with tremendous bargains on books, Charlie Russell and other art prints, Stan Lynde autographed books and book covers and more.
Throughout the day MHS Development Officer Susan Near will be offering John C. Ulberg’s special limited edition print of Stan Lynde for a $100 donation for the planned Montana Heritage Center -- a new home for MHS.
Lorretta Lynde, who is former publisher of the Independent Record, will show family photos and other images from her brother’s life, which was shaped by the ranch life childhood they shared. MHS currently has a major exhibit of Stan’s art and cartoon strips, including Latigo and Rick O’Shay. Other personal artifacts from his life and his mementos from his truly national audience are on display.
The “From The Heart: Stan Lynde’s Comic Creation” exhibit will be taken down in December.
There will be drawings for door prizes throughout the day, which is sponsored by the Helena Community Credit Union.
